To the PDX Jazz community:
PDX Jazz finds the systemic racism permeating our society unacceptable. Black Lives Matter. We mourn the loss of George Floyd and so many others who have lost their lives in senseless acts of violence. We join in the chorus of voices across America expressing intolerance of racism in America. And we urge elected officials, police leaders and government institutions in our hometown of Portland and across America to effect immediate reform and change of laws and accountabilities that will ensure the liberty and dignity of Black Lives in our community and across America.
Jazz music is an American treasure, originating with and shaped today by the creative and spiritual force of the African American community. People of different ethnicity, history, culture, and values around the globe have embraced the artistry and message of jazz.
PDX Jazz is humbled, honored and proud to provide a stage for jazz and the many African American musicians who share this gift with audiences worldwide. And it is with vigor and fervor that we intend to advance the opportunity for contemporary African American music and its message to be heard.
Respectfully,
Chris Doss
