Celebrating the 66th Annual Grammy Nominees at the 2024 Biamp Portland Jazz Festival

The music world is abuzz with the recent announcement of the 2024 GRAMMY nominations by the Recording Academy. The awards ceremony, set to take place on Sunday, February 4, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, promises to be a star-studded event. Several of these talented artists will be taking the stage right here in Portland, Oregon. We at PDX Jazz are thrilled to share that a number of this year's GRAMMY nominees, including Jon Batiste, Louis Cole, Bob James, and Julian Lage, will be performing at the 2024 Biamp Portland Jazz Festival.

‘ALBUM OF THE YEAR’ NOMINEE

Included in the 2024 Biamp Portland Jazz Festival lineup is none other than the five-time Grammy winner, Jon Batiste. Batiste, who has already made a significant mark in the music industry, has been nominated for six awards at the 66th annual Grammy Awards, including his second nod for the prestigious 'Album of the Year'.

Batiste's latest recording, 'World Music Radio', is in the running for the Grammys' most coveted award, alongside albums by renowned artists such as Taylor Swift, Janelle Monáe, Lana Del Rey, Miley Cyrus, Boygenius, Olivia Rodrigo, and SZA. This isn't Batiste's first rodeo, though. At the 64th Grammy Awards in 2022, his album 'We Are' won the esteemed 'Album of the Year' title. Now, with 'World Music Radio', he is looking to repeat this remarkable achievement.

But that's not all. Batiste's talent and versatility have earned him nominations in several other categories. He is up for 'Record of the Year' for 'Worship', 'Song of the Year' for 'Butterfly', 'Best Jazz Performance' for 'Movement 18' (Heroes)', 'Best American Roots Performance' for 'Butterfly', and 'Best Pop Duo/Group Performance' for his guest feature on Lana Del Rey's 'Candy Necklace'.

Batiste will be performing at the 2024 Biamp Portland Jazz Festival on February 16 at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall. This is a performance you won't want to miss!

New Categories, New Opportunities

The 2024 GRAMMYs are making history with the introduction of three new categories: ‘Best African Music Performance’, ‘Best Alternative Jazz Album’, and ‘Best Pop Dance Recording’. These additions are part of a broader set of updates aimed at making the GRAMMY Awards process more fair, transparent, and accurate, as stated by Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr.

One of our festival performers, Louis Cole, has been nominated in the new category of ‘Best Alternative Jazz Album’ for his work ‘Quality Over Opinion’. Known for his future-sonic-funk drumming and multi-instrumental prowess, Cole is a celebrated singer, songwriter, and producer. We're excited to see him perform at the Roseland Theater on March 2, alongside special guests Carrtoons and Genevieve Artadi.

This album, which transcends genre boundaries and celebrates jazz music and culture, features a variety of talented artists, including CeeLo Green, Dave Koz, and Marcus Miller. Don't miss the chance to experience James' artistry, along with the dazzling and prolific GRAMMY award winner Lee Ritenour, at the Newmark Theatre on February 24.
