PDX Jazz presents
Dan Balmer & Mike Horsfall Quartet
feat. Bill Athens & Jason Palmer

for Elevate Unity Benefit Series

Friday, December 3, 2021

Doors open: 5 pm – Show 6 – 9pm
BOTANIST
910 NW 14th Ave, Portland

Dan Balmer:  From coffee house gigs at fifteen to chart-topping success with the Tom Grant Band in the 90s, world tours with two-time Grammy Award winner Diane Schuur and contemporary jam-bands, Dan Balmer brings fire and heart every time he plays the guitar. His playing spans nearly one hundred CDs including twelve as a leader from which his original works have appeared internationally in television, film, and radio.

Mike Horsfall: Has enjoyed a successful and diverse musical career for over 40 years, serving as a concert soloist, accompanist, musical director, educator, composer, arranger, and recording artist on both piano and vibraphone. He was educated at Central Washington University, the University of Washington, and Marylhurst University in Portland, Oregon.  He has studied with Gary Burton, Joe Locke, Mal Waldron, Bill Cunliffe, and Hal Galper.

Mike is probably best known for his work with the vibes-bass-drums trio named Tall Jazz, a group that was voted into the Oregon Jazz Society’s Hall of Fame in 2010.

Mike has performed and/or recorded with a large number of world-class musicians, including Chuck Redd, Darrell Grant, Valery Day, Rebecca Kilgore, Karla Harris, Marilyn Keller, Randy Porter, Todd Strait, and Tom Wakeling.  At jazz festivals, he has performed with Ingrid Jensen, Russell Malone, Anat Cohen, Kurt Elling, Janis Siegel, Terrill Stafford, Lewis, Holly Hofman, and Storm Large.

In addition to performing, Mike is an avid music educator, serving on the faculties at Willamette University, Mt. Hood Community College, Clark College, and Oregon Episcopal School.

Elevate Unity Benefit Music Series features Portland’s top Soul, Latin & Jazz bands.
During the shows, we will spotlight positive tangible commentary from community activists, select nonprofits, and social equality advocates sharing ideas and strategies to unite our divided country.

Seating is limited due to the city and state restrictions.  Reservations are suggested in order to ensure entry.

Botanist:
For those unfamiliar with Botanist, we are your thoughtful, intentional home away from home neighborhood destination bar/restaurant located in the heart of the Pearl District in Portland, Oregon.
