Theo Croker is a storyteller who speaks through his trumpet. A creative who refuses boundaries, the GRAMMY Award-nominated artist, composer, producer, thought leader, and influencer projects his voice through the music. Croker crash-landed with a simmering original sound on his Dee Dee Bridgewater-assisted album Afro Physicist. Following the success of Escape Velocity in 2016, he ascended to a new stratosphere with the GRAMMY nominated Star People Nation. The New York Times called it “an album that gallivants from swirling, left-field hip-hop beats to propellant swing to entrancing passages of African percussion. Through it all, Croker’s understated trumpet playing holds his small band together with swagger and poise.” Theo has lent his sound to platinum-selling albums by J. Cole to Ari Lennox. His latest album, out this Fall, BLK2LIFE || A FUTURE PAST features Wyclef Jean, Kassa Overall & Ari Lennox.
MIKE DILLON’S PUNKADELICK FT. NIKKI GLASPIE & BRIAN HAAS 11.27.21
at Jack London Revue
How many artists have been praised a “punk rock provocateur,” “jazz vibraphone visionary,” and “percussion virtuoso” in the same sentence? Whether through his affiliation with artists like Les Claypool, Primus, Rickie Lee Jones, and Ani Difranco, and collaborations such as Nolatet, Garage a Trois, The Dead Kenny G’s, Critters Buggin or bands he has led, including Mike Dillon Band, Mike Dillon’s New Orleans Punk Rock Percussion Consortium, Billy Goat and Hairy Apes BMX, the Texas-native has set his own standard for 25 years now. Over the past decade, Mike Dillon has released a number of highly acclaimed albums, intertwining a range of influences from Zappa-esque eccentricity to Fishbone punk funk, D.C. Go-Go to Milt Jackson-influenced vibraphone majesty.

Have yourself a soulful little Christmas with smooth-as-silk crooner José James, the crown prince of new-jack jazz. An R&B-steeped singer who’s as effective evoking Billie Holiday as Bill Withers, José James returns with his first holiday project that imbues classic songs of the season with the warmth of a roaring fireplace in winter, captured on his new album Merry Christmas From José James and brings all that heat and light to an evening of songs inextricably linked to the holidays.

Highly acclaimed, Award-winning vocalist Jazzmeia Horn announces her ever-expanding talents with the release of her first big-band effort, Dear Love (out 09.10), a recording that brims with the combination of her assured delivery and spoken world segments, deft arrangements and fiery musical ideas. Horn said the 15-piece Noble Force ensemble she put together for Dear Love revolved around her regular rhythm section – pianist Keith Brown, bassist Eric Wheeler and drummer Anwar Marshall – which had played the tunes collected here in different arrangements while on the road. Saxophonist Bruce Williams’ leadership in the alto section also was indispensable to the album’s full realization.
Jazzmeia will perform with her Quartet for this show.
