Saxophone and clarinet player Leon Cotter has led a musical double life, spending much of the last decade touring the country with soul/blues/party band The California Honeydrops, while maintaining a reputation as a sought after sideman in Portland’s local jazz scene. Leon’s playing and compositions draw from a wide variety of world and jazz influences, ranging from the folk song-like compositions of South African pianist Abdullah Ibrahim, to the street beat of New Orleans second line, to the odd-meter funk of Chris Potter’s Underground band.
